William Lyons
Clinical Supervisor
The supervisor-supervisee relationship is a collaborative one, in which there is openness and trust on both sides. I am a Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners approved Clinical Supervisor. The supervisory relationship is one that must possess choice, trust, and transparency by both the supervisor and supervisee. Supervision can be a transformative and reflective process to enhance clinical assessment, professional skills, and advance knowledge. In addition, it establishes a safe environment to explore implicit bias and reflect on shortcomings to improve service delivery no matter one’s professional setting. Priority is placed on mastering competency in clinical skills and increasing your confidence and distinction as a Clinical Social Worker.
I offer Clinical Social Work Supervision that is structured to enhance your clinical and professional skills, knowledge, and attitudes in order to achieve advanced competency and provide ethical clinical care to one’s clientele. Knowing that we all learn differently and each have unique career goals, I offer a comprehensive supervision experience that considers a variety of evidenced-based modalities and frameworks: on the psychodynamic and attachment models, cognitive-behavioral model, Trauma-informed and strength-based models.
Bio
I am a clinical social worker and supervisor with experience across fields; including case management, mental health services, community organizing, financial coaching, and non-profit management with a specific expertise in trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing. I obtained a M.S. in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin, and started my career at The Salvation Army, advancing to case management supervisor (1), directing wraparound services for the chronically homeless.
Currently, I work at Legacy Community Health as a program manager (2) for Social Determinants of Health, leading and mentoring future healthcare professionals. At Intracare North Hospital, I was a part-time therapist (3), serving those living with mental illness and addiction. I co-founded The Mahogany Project and now continue as an advocate (4) for the empowerment for queer Black men. Lastly, I am a board member (5) for Contemporary Relationships, an annual conference on strengthening LGBTQ+ relationships.
